Goals Reloaded

Goals2

I got this article from Seth Godin which I read from time to time. Seth is a best selling author, marketing and agent of change. Good books I’ve browsed through included The Dip and Purple Cow. The reason I read Seth’s post is that he thinks ahead of the curve and in many instances, as a thought leader, you create or influence the work, business and social environment.

In a short post a few days ago, Seth Godin talked about the freedom and flexibility of NOT having goals. He wrote,

Having goals is a pain in the neck.

If you don’t have a goal (a corporate goal, a market share goal, a personal career goal, an athletic goal…) then you can just do your best. You can take what comes. You can reprioritize on a regular basis. If you don’t have a goal, you never have to worry about missing it. If you don’t have a goal you don’t need nearly as many excuses, either.

Without goals, life is also more fun!

Then Seth adds the twist.

It seems to me, though, that the people who get things done, who lead, who grow and who make an impact… those people have goals

Which ever way you choose, you only have one life to live. You can check out Seth Godin’s books here.
